This was from the first “Mountain Aid” concert in Shakori Hills, North Carolina in June 2009. In Search of a Song producer Rich Reardin attended the festival to do interviews with artists that were there, including Kathy Mattea, Kathy’s husband Jon Vezner, Andrew McKnight, as well as some of the activists that attended in support of the concert. The concert was held to raise money for the Rock Creek West Virginia Elementary school which is in danger at the base of a slurry dam put up by Massey Energy of W.V. The local activists included Larry Gibson, Chuck Nelson, and Ed and Debbie Wiley. They all work towards the ending of MTR, or Mountain Top Removal coal mining in Appalachia.
